The concept of the »Sentimental Museum« expanded Spoerri's idea of the »trap picture« (tableau piège) to encompass an entire territory—a city or region. Objects were brought together for an exhibition that possessed a sentimental connection, in the broadest sense, to the city or region. In Paris, for example, these included the key to the Bastille, the violin of the painter Ingres, Marie Antoinette's knitting needles, and the like. The arrangement within the exhibition followed the encyclopedist tradition of alphabetical order, always accompanied by a text.
In 2026, we will look back on the »Sentimental Museums« realized by Daniel Spoerri. At the same time, a »Sentimental Museum of Hadersdorf« is planned.
